Anyone know why they shut down? Drove past here yesterday and the sign was down and it was pitch black. Went through Jack drive thru today and asked the cashier and she said her husband worked at Carousel and just said they had closed. The place was always kind of run down but the few times I ate there it was good. I had been told it had been in business a long time.bbb

kElJoY --- 12 years ago -

No way!!! That's the only place you could get a Gyro!!

DJCC --- 12 years ago -

Not true, Palm Kabob has always had them. And Palm Kabob doesn't suffer from Pete's cleanliness issues.

alwaysright --- 12 years ago -

petes was dirty and the ladies bathroom made me gag, but their food was good the one time wetried it.

kElJoY --- 12 years ago -

I have eaten Sujuk Sandwiches off the little man grilling them on his vendor grill in the middle of Turkey...Pete's didn't bother me lol. Rula (owner) was/is a nice lady so I hope everything is okay for her and she is just retiring.

Palm Kabob has always had them.

I stand corrected. I haven't eaten there since they opened.

DJCC --- 12 years ago -

I haven't eaten there since they opened.

Its delightful, you should try it again. Easily my most favorite spot in town!

kElJoY --- 12 years ago -

It was good - I just have to be in the mood for it. We are still waiting for the Tokyo Grill to open back up under new management.

ChadUSMC30 --- 12 years ago -

So I went by again today and there's a new sign for Andrea's Burgers...so perhaps they were bought out and can retire!

kElJoY --- 12 years ago -

Awwww good for Rula!

What was wrong w/the old mgmt? I liked that place, though I've only been twice. I didn't really know that entire plaza existed.

It was Andrea's before it was Pete's, and I believe John's Place before that (many years ago), maybe someone who lived here awhile might know that.

Absolutely nothing. They sold their business to the new owners. He said he had been wanting to get out from under it for awhile. They were great folks!

We liked it when it was the hot dog place, yummy!!!

Only been here 3 years and PCSing soon so I didn't know that.

Their omelettes were outstanding, we'd get them as take out on Saturdays sometimes over the past 6 years. Sad to see them go, the lady (it must have been Rula) always remembered me and the kids, she'd always come over to us and ask how we were, she was very personable that way.

The few times I went she always chatted and smiled. She reminded me of my Grandmother so of course I liked talking with her. I hope the best for her and her family. Will try Andrea's if it opens before I move next month.

After over 80 health issue problems with the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, the county finally got tired of them NOT correcting the problems and issued them a cease-and-desist order until ALL health issues were corrected. Rather than spend the bucks to correct the problems; which included MANY plumbing issues involving the restrooms; they just shut the place down..Good luck to whomever buys and tries to reopen the place.....

FYI, you can lookup the restaurant grades here for any place that sells food in SB county:

Who knew there were 77 places to eat in 29 palms!?

In the top right you can setup a filter to only show A, B or C restaurants.

RaeRie (Mod) --- 12 years ago -

You mean not since our girl's nights with fellow UGers? :) I still miss those. There is nothing like Palm Kabob down here in GA.

kElJoY --- 12 years ago -

Yep - that was the last time I ate there. I think...maybe one more time after I don't remember now but it's been a long time.

kElJoY --- 12 years ago -

You are incorrect.

They do not have Gyros. They have Shawarma in a pita with tahini and pickled turnips. Standard middle eastern fare.

A Gyro is crispy meat with and tzatziki sauce (yogurt based) and is Mediterranean.

Yes, they have a basic similarity but they are NOT the same.

While I have liked a lot of the food from the Palm Kabob restaurant in the past - I definitely didn't care for the spices in the my SHAWRAMA Pita.

When asked if they have gyros they even say no - and then tell you that it is the Shawrama.

I'm jus' sayin' :)

Technically speaking I suppose but some of those 77 are the schools and clubs around town.

Luhvn Cali Sunshine --- 12 years ago -

They didn't shut down. They are converting it back into Andreas (:
