Not The Usual Suspect --- 13 years ago -

Hello everyone!

We're moving to 29 Palms this summer. We've lived there before many years ago, in 98 for 6 months and from 01 to 05. The kids were little then and life was much different than it is for us now.

My main concerns are about the high schools...I'll have a 10th grade boy and an 8th grade girl, so I know the middle school is a concern too, but mostly the high school since she'll only be in MS for 1 school year.

I'd rather live on base, I think in Ocotillo Heights - any input into that housing area would be awesome as far as is there a teen center over there? a pool? Last time we lived in 801 and Shadow Mountain so I know next to nothing about Ocotillo lol

If anyone has any insight into YVHS versus TPHS in any and all aspects, it'd be really appreciated. By that I mean academics, extracurriculars, sports (track and field and soccer)etc.

Also, anyone know anything about competetive/travel soccer for girls in the area?

Thank you in advance!!

Good luck going to the high school. That's all I got.

Where are you moving from currently?

Yucca Valley HS has more of a class selection being a larger high school. I would contact the Principal or the office to see if they can email you their class selections for next year.

We're coming from Pendleton. I'm accustomed to the California educational system in general as we've been here almost 4 years, do the HS curriculum is similar at both compared to Oceanside HS, our oldest just graduated from OHS last week. I know neither is ideal, but just wondering if one is any better than the other is it six in one hand, half dozen in the other kind of thing.

Also, any gouge on the teen center/activities on base or on Ocotillo would still help.

oops...:-)

I would guess Oceanside HS probably had a larger assortment of classes to select from just based on the local opportunities and tax based funding coming from that area.
