Well...We may get transferred to Camp Lejeune. They have a HUGE job starting there in the next few months. I did a search and read up on a few of the threads, but I still have a few questions. Hopefully someone here can help.

I was wondering what there is to do there? My main question is if there is a place to ride our dirt bikes? Is there places to hike? I'm not worried about the shopping thing. I'm ready for some adventure!! Can we kayak? Is there a beach close by so we might can scuba dive?

Any, any, any info you might can offer up would be fantastic!! 

Should be plenty to do. Lots of trees so hiking should be easy. There is Morgan Bay and Stones Bay right by there. It's a small base but it's nice enough. Housing sucks but it is what it is. You can very easily afford to rent in town. Camp Johnson is only 6 miles away which is in Jasckonville. They have some nice rentals there. 

I'm at Lejeune now! There's lots of places to ride at. My hubs and kids ride and we hit up the local tracks. Hammocks Beach in Swansboro is a great place to kayak. Tons of beaches close by but I've never met anyone who scuba dives around here. It might be possible but I'm not famialiar with scuba diving here.

CAMP LEJEUNE has its own UNDERGROUND full of "wonderful users" just like 29Palms does.

Thanks a bunch. Glad to hear that renting will be somewhat affordable especially coming from Fredericksburg where it's so expensive.

Guess we better make a trip home to get the bikes! So excited to hear that. We have 2 of our kayaks here, but yet to use them.

Only bad thing there is that I may not be able to get on base. It was like that when we first moved to 29.

There are lots and lots of bars, strip clubs, and tattoo shops, traffic, and prostitution, too. LOL

Oh yeah...and the Marines do a lot of exercises there. It's a GREAT place for a little eye candy!! ;)

I would NOT suggest renting in Jax itself, I'd go to Hubert, Swansboro, or Sneads Ferry. There are gates at all of these areas. I LOVE lejeune, especially the bars, lol. The beach in Emerald Isle is nice but for scuba you may want to go to wilmington or up to moorehead,

Thanks. Now I have an idea as to where to look for a place. Hopefully the COL will be cheaper then it is here in VA. 

Southwest or Richlands is also other great areas. Richlands is a bit of a hike, imo, maybe 30min depending on which side of Richlands. However Richalands is cheaper also. 

30 mins would seem like a walk in the park compared to the time it takes him to get home now. About 15 minutes to get to work and about an hour to get home! The traffic here is crazy stupid. 

Lots of hiking in the croaten (sp) we kayak in the white oak river all the time but there are so many other areas to go.... Not sure bout the dirt biking but I'm sure there is! Lol we love it here

Hubert, swansboro, sneaks ferry... We are in Maysville, some parts are great and some parts in jones county are kinda scatchy rich lands is nice as well.... I would also stay away from living in jax the traffic in and out is insane. Midway park (base housing sometimes takes longer to get home then it does the hubs to drive about 20 miles the other direction!!

Anything out of the piney green gate (and that depends on the day!) the sneads ferry and 172 gates are good to go 

Rent for a 3 bedroom averages $900 - $1300 depending where. We have a 6 year old 3 br 2.5 bath 2000 sq foot house with about a half an acre for $1175

If you have pets it will be a little harder... They charge an insane pet fee if you go through a rental agency and even privately.

I think we may enjoy it there seeing there is so much more outdoor things to do there then here.
