at Santanas today guy is going up to cars and all people in parking lot asking for money and the store manager told him to leave.. He left then apparently But if he was really hungry and asking for help or pocket change etc [and NOT drugs I'd give him change which I am not rich tho']But he did it for like 2 hours or more and I was going to warn him and tell him if he would leave then I'd give him some cash[ little I had].. But he was gone soon.I cannot share to please the public eye as a reputed thing.Cannot afford it anyhow.

kElJoY --- 13 years ago -

You could just offer to buy him a sandwich or something too joe. :)

If the community draws up some moral rules on 'panhandling' to make it bad to ask or beg for drug money [beer too] /but only can get food THat'll be a big improvement .BUT NOT put it thru Congress to finalize it [everybody agrees certain behavior not allowed /only if need funds to feed others]..It would have acceptable guidelines in public.People take advantage of others not caring that they are is sad too. People do not need heroin /crack etc really. Nothing really ethical there if you really thought of it.7-11 panners got carried away in last 11 years ! Now the manager there will kick the butt out of there. And he's in the right(one guy asking for beer money constantly see].But if people would think about how they ask for' then maybe it can be worked out! Not do it everyday of most weeks or such.

People in Yucca outside Walmart panhandle all the time. I'm with BuckWild on this, I'd rather buy food and give to them then hand them cash. JMO

AND Churches do have food pantries etc..People will not starve actually in the town seemingly. They just walk to those and get the needed food.

There was a man sleeping in a doorway one cold/rainy day and I gave him a pizza from Little Caesars. I figured I could part with $5.

Wait...I didn't mean only do that. I'm just saying that it is an option. If I have $$ I will give it - if I have time I will offer a meal. It doesn't bother me to give $$ if I have it at all.

Sometimes people just need help and they don't know where to find it. I don't know what it is like to be that desperate and I feel for someone that is; regardless of their reason for being so.

Well yes I know but how would I know what they want it for. It's not up to me what they do with any $$ I give them. I do it with a pure heart.

It is always better to offer them food, if they turn it down...that would indicate they are lookin to buy drugs....IMO

China Doll can I be a little plastic GIJoe doll myself [asking ya if okay] ?? I can be sold on shelves at stores . Really business needs a 'joe' action figure because they do not know they're missing that idea.BUCK recommends it too!

When we were in Oregon the local news station did a story on panhandling in the area. What they turned up was one guy was just too lazy to work. He made so much money standing with a sign that when it was all said and done he went around the corner and got in his Mercedes. That kinda leaves a bad taste.

Local channel 2 did a similar story down the hill and found one man on the corner of Bob Hope Drive and Ramona Road. After interviewing him they discovered he actually lived in one of the "GATED" communities and drove a "NEW" Porsche...they actually showed it and it still had the dealer plates on it...

We have one guy down here that I will sometimes give a buck or two to...His sign reads...NO BS...JUST WANT A BEER OR TWO!!!

Wildfire --- 13 years ago -

His sign reads...NO BS...JUST WANT A BEER OR TWO!!!

Got to appreciate his honesty.

There was a guy in Georgia that would sit in the same spot day after day. For some reason my heart just went out to him. I would stop by the store and get him a bottle of water and a bag of chips plus give him a few dollars. [i]

When we moved out here I was very surprised to see so much panhandling. In Dallas it is illegeal, you can be fined and jailed for doing this.

kElJoY --- 13 years ago -

Where do you see so much of it at?

Erin --- 13 years ago -

I watched a guy in Palm Springs walk perfectly fine to a corner, pull a sign out of his back pack that read "wounded vet" and then cross the street where he suddenly developed a severely strong limp. I was stunned...who does that!?!

Justatouchofcute --- 13 years ago -

Seems to be lots of it in yucca near the Walmart sonic area, and San Diego is absolutely ridiculous.

Though it was San Diego I saw my favorite pan handling sign "just because I am fat doesn't mean I ain't hungry" lol

Maybe my definition of a lot is different from others.

Wildfire --- 13 years ago -

I worked in downtown Memphis where a lot of panhandling took place. There was this one guy who would ask people if they had a penny. At the end of the day he would come to our office to cash in his change. He racked up on just that.
