Has anyone done the independent schooling where the kid does the work at home and someone comes to check up on them each week? If so, how does it work and about how much time do you spend on their curriculum each day? I am a third year accounting student so most of the school day is spent on my own school work. I'm worried that I'll be pulling late nights and early mornings (like I'll only be sleeping from 2 am - 5:30 am) if I try to do both.

I'm toying with the idea of pulling my 6 year old out of Condor. She comes home crying everyday about how the teacher yells all the time, that everybody is rushing her, or that there are just too many noisy kids. Yesterday, she cried into my neck for half an hour over how a girl she thought could be a new friend stole her chapstick from her desk and that, when she tried to take it back, the kid hit her and the teacher didn't do anything about it.

My kids are smart and they normally love school but it breaks my heart to hear that she's having such a rough time and hates it here. I plan to shadow her class tomorrow so I can see, first hand, how her day is going but I'm doubtful that it will be on par with my personal standards. Since enrolling her in Condor, I have consistently butted heads with her teacher and she just seems to try to contradict everything I say or suggest to help make her short time her a little better for everyone.

I don't have a good answer(s) for you but I feel ya.

With the Independent Continuing Education (ICE) program, the child meets with the teacher one day a week to get their homework, then does the rest at home with the parents guidance, then meets with the teacher again the following week for an hour to go over the assignments, and get their new assignments for the week.

Thanks, Mari. Have you done it? I got the gist of what the program is from the school liaison but I'm hoping for someone who has gone through it.

Yes, we have in the past, but for 4 months in Jr. High and a semester in High School, not for elementary aged students. My daughter was enrolled in the program for about 8 months in total.

Thanks :)

The bullying that goes on alone is enough to want to pull a child out of school for sure. I completely get that.
