found a stray dog. looks under a year old.
is there a pound nearby where i can take him? 

i know there is a shelter in town called palms and paws.
don't know anything about taking a stray.
i know they charge a fee for surrendering a dog that is yours, but not sure for a stray.

do i just show up and say i found him?
i've never done this before. 

Call them first and ask if they can pick it up or if you can just bring it in.

i already called three times, and they are not answering.
they close at 5 today so i will try to drop the little guy off.
will they even have room for him?
i've heard of shelters sending people away because they don't have the room. 

You can post a pic of him on some of the 29 palms pet pages on facebook. Someone there may know him or could foster until a home is found. 

It's a kill shelter so if they don't find the home or find it a new home he/she will be put down. 

they will come and get it. its not yours they do not charge. if you drop it off during business hours they may. they check to see if the dog is micro chipped if it is they contact the owners, if not they keep it for 7-10 days to make sure its healthy and they they put it up for adoption. the only time they usually put them down is when they are sick. they are really nice people up there. they get there at 8 am if you wanted to call then.
