POLL: Which is worse...

...when it comes to deployments? One of my best friends's husband is in the Navy, and is on a sub. He has a bunch of 2 week to 3 months mini-deployments. She thinks that it would be worse to have one long deployment like the Marines' usual 7 month (or a year). I think it would be harder to be her, to just have him leave all the time, it would be hard to make a routine for myself. But, she also has a toddler, so that may factor into it as well. Which is worse or would be worse to you?

With kids, I think several mini deployments would be harder. At least with a long deployment it's not the back and forth of a couple weeks home randomly.

I think that would be a lot harder.

I hate how some ppl turn everything into pissing contests. Who cares who thinks they have it harder?!? Deployments suck...end of story.

It wasn't a contest, we were just having a discussion about it. We both appreciate the hardships each other go through, I was just wondering what some of us would think about other kinds of deployments vs. the ones many of us had already experienced. This was a discussion, not a debate.

with all the things that seem to go wrong on a 7 month deployment..and you just wanna TALK to your husband about them, or get his imput..i would love to have mine do a bunch of "minis" so we could still see him! To KNOW that he is okay every 2 weeks..instead of waiting on phone calls or letters that sometimes only come once a month(depending on job/location, etc.)

I think I'd prefer the mini deployments. My kiddo did much better when my hubs was able to come home (even if it was for a day), then gone completely for 7 months.

Seven months is long? The army is over there for over a year at a time.

I thought they only deployed once an enlistment and got r and r half way through...the halfway through r and r sounds like a tease and it would be harder than just go straight through

I'm not sure on all that, but they will be switching to 9 month deployments soon. Still tough, but yes 7 months is long too. If you love someone, and you have to be separated by thousands of miles, of course its going to be long! Its not like Marines ONLY go for 7 months all the time. I know some that have gone for 9, 10 months, a year or more also.

My husband deployed twice for a year long, I didn't want him to come home on R and R because I wasn't saying goodbye all over again. Next year will be his 3rd year long deployment, not sure if we are gonna do the R and R thing. Just too hard.

Ouch. I think R and R would be so hard, like you say, saying goodbye again. That's why I thought the several mini deployments thing would suck. I mean, sometimes my friend only gets a few weeks with her husband home before he's off again for another few weeks or months.

awww that :( I wanna give you hugs

Aww thanks. Im ok. I am a tough cookie. No friends and no family has made me a tough MArine wife.

IWearHisRank --- 13 years ago -

no time for friends

I know always busy! that helps me deal with deployments! But it gets harder when the kids get older, problems/milestones are a lot bigger and so are the attitudes, driver licenses, proms, and HS graduations! UGH...
